Biography

Joni Anne Hemond is an author, pediatrician, and mother. She received her Medical Degree in 1999 from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City and completed pediatric residency training at the University of Utah/Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake. She has practiced in New Jersey and Utah as a general outpatient pediatrician, primarily working with underserved populations. She began writing stories in elementary school and continued to write throughout high school, college, medical school, and residency. Much of her writing is based upon her own experiences.

In 2014, Joni was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Her nineteen months of treatment changed her outlook on life, and gave her a new perspective of the patient experience.

Joni currently lives in Salt Lake City with her husband, children, and a sweet but sassy blue heeler. She works as an academic pediatrician at the University of Utah School of Medicine.
